Pippa Howarth joined ITOPF as a Technical Adviser in February 2025. In this role, she provides technical advice in response to ship-source marine pollution incidents worldwide, including oil, chemical and plastic spills. Her work has involved attending two plastic pellet spills in United Kingdom and Sri Lanka, assessing environmental and socio-economic impacts, advising on pollution response strategies, and contributing to post-incident damage assessments and claims analyses.

Pippa holds a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology and Oceanography and an MSc in International Marine Environmental Consultancy and specialises in fisheries and coastal livelihoods. She is a member of ITOPF’s Fisheries Working Group, applying her scientific background to understanding and advising on the impacts of pollution incidents on fisheries and aquaculture systems.

She is also actively involved in progressing the understanding of plastic pollution impacts within spill response contexts and contributes to international capacity-building initiatives across Asia and beyond.
